Kid's say the darndest things

Harry has a new fascination with running around without his nappy or undies on.  Which I could live with however it was his new favourite saying that had Phil & I scratching our heads thinking WHAT THE??  He points his skinny little bottom at your face, and declares "Look at my butt!"  To start with it was funny, but after it's 5th or 6th delivery with a bottom poked in our face the shine was starting to wear off.  Which had us wondering where on earth he had learnt such a thing.  We were blaming movies, TV and random kids met on playgrounds, as it certainly isn't anything Phil & I do at home.  Well not in front of the kids anyways!!

However the light dawned on me just this morning as his new saying changed from "look at my butt!" to something all the more horrifying sounding...  I was chasing Harry around the house as usual, demanding that he "Put on some pants!" which he thinks is a delightful game.  As he runs and giggles and hides.  Which is fun on a day like today when we have nowhere to be, but frustrating as hell when you're running late.  Today however it was a relaxing morning and we had nothing much to do, so I let the game perpetuate.   I was chasing after him calling out my usual catch cry of "Look at that butt!" and trying to chase him down to put some pants on...   Which I normally follow with a rejoinder about "Watch out, birdie will peck that willie off!"   Now you might realise where he picked up the saying about the 'butt'...  Straight out of my mouth, but it still hadn't caught on to that yet...  I then went on to tell him that the big bear was going to bite him on the bottom, if he didn't put his nappy on!"  and then stomped after him growling, using my hands to make chomping motions.  I finally caught him, held him down and tickled him while the 'Bear' puppet pretended to chomp him on the bottom.  He then demanded "Spit it out and put my bottom back!" much like he does when I tell him I've stolen his nose.  So the bear spat the bottom out, and the nappy went on.  And I forgot all about the little bottom eating bear.  Until Harry ran up to me and demanded "Put my bottom in your mouth!!!!"  You can imagine the horrified look that I must have had on my face?  I was just glad that we were at home and not in a public place as you can imagine the looks that would have garnered.  I was thinking WHERE ON EARTH DOES HE GET THESE SAYINGS FROM!!!!  When suddenly it all clicked and fell into place, and I could hear myself calling out "Look at that butt!" as I chased him...  And putting his butt in someone's mouth is his 3 year old interpretation of the bottom eating bear.

So just goes to show, not only do you have to be careful what you wish for.  You have to watch everything you say to your kids as well.  As you never know when it may come back up to "bite you on the butt!"
