Words to live by

I have attached a card my father sent with some words that I hope to live by and impart on my child as he grows up. If he is anything like me growing up I'm in for one hell of a bad time.

Thank you Dad for your wisdom.

The Second Birth Notice

Hello all, This is the Birth Notice placed in the Gold Coast bulletin.

We were a bit late on this one. We were supposed to have it in the Weekend of the 13th but forgot all about it until Friday night and the deadline had passed so we had to put it in the Weekend of the 20th.

Again the names have been smudged to protect the innocent, those that know us know and those that don't, don't need to know.

Waffle Waffle Waffle.

Not a lot has happened bathing crying eating pooping pooping pooping...... Get the picture :)

Well enough from me here I have a couple of posts to add so see you all when something happens.

BTW he is at last weigh in 3.5kg and is 16 days old. Still got all his hair and looks better than ever.

First Birth Notice

Well here is Harrisons first birth notice. The names have been blanked to protect the innocent.

Thanks to my dad for this notice.

So far not a lot has happened in the world of Harrison. He can almost hold his head up by himself, when lying on my lap he can lift it up and look at you. This I though was pretty cool seeing as he is only 12 days old when this happened.

He can also when he is sitting on your lap stand up and hold for a few seconds then sits back down, I don't want to hold him in this position too much as I have heard that it is bad for their bones and joints if you put too much weight on them before he is old enough to hold them.

I should look up what the ideal ages for some of these developments happen.

Also he can follow my fingers with his head granted they cant be to far away from his eyes or he cant see them.

Can you tell I'm proud already.

Enough I'm off to bed.

Mummy's View

Well this is the first chance I've had of even getting near a computer since young Master Harrison has arrived...

All I can say is thank god for Phil. He has been an absolute godsend, right from the start of my apparently painless pre labour (don't you love the way the Dr's tell you it's painless when your the one doubled over in agony!) to being a fantastic hands on Daddy. He is such a proud Daddy, and so wonderful with Harrison, I don't think I could possibly be any luckier to have such a wonderful husband and baby. And well I think Harrison is definately blessed to have such an amazing Daddy (specially since his mum is an absolute nut bag).

As to my little Angel, I keep saying it's amazes me how much you can love this new little creature that you've only just met, but he has managed to capture my heart in his long little fingers. Every time I look at him I think of the lyrics from the song Heaven by Live - "I don't need no one to tell me about heaven I look at my daughter, and I believe." I can certainly see where they were coming from. I have trouble putting him down at all (even when asleep), which is probably a good thing as the little tyke has a problem with being put down. And well he is the most adorable thing on the planet (I'm not biased at all). And I'm absolutely fascinated by his every facial expression and move. I'm already trying to think how I can put off going back to work etc until he's passed all his milestones (so about 18 - 25) as I don't want to miss a single thing...

Anyway as per Phil's other entries we have discovered that I can get him to sleep well at night (with only 2 or so feeds) if he is in bed with me, so I have taken to sleeping on a mattress in the lounge room with him, meaning my house looks like my bedroom threw up, but I figure anything to get some sleep. And well it works for me too as I like having him close to me... Our next move is convincing Daddy that we can all sleep safely in our bed.

Well that is about all I have to say, except that I have a new found respect for all parents. I mean I didn't expect this to be easy, but you just have no idea, until you are up at 3am, trying to work out if he's hungry, needing a change, in pain or just tired and cranky. And hearing him cry just rips your heart out...

I'm afraid my usual eloquence has left me along with my need for 8 hours sleep a night so until next time....

Joy's of Semi Co-sleeping

Ok we had another rough night. I tried desperately to sleep so i could work today but Jodi was up and down every 5 min to walk him around pat him to sleep. We have found he doesn't need food doesn't need to be changed doesn't need to be burped. The only thing left is he was missing us when we put him to sleep in the bassinet. Im against co-sleeping in the same bed as we have 2 doonas and a sheet on us at all times and he would disappear under those. So as you can see from the photo Jodi took to sleeping in the baby's room on the floor.....Not very comfortable but it worked from 3:30 am to 7:30 am he slept, we slept I SLEPT!

So now we have to find a way for Jodi to sleep on the floor comfortably.
$150 bassinet
$400 cot
sleeping on the floor priceless.

Enough of this Jodi wants a shower and i have to go to work so talk more tonight or unless Jodi finds time she might say a few words. Posted by Picasa

The Night's of the no Sleep!!!!

Well here we are up to day 5 from birth and day 2 of at home. All i can say is i thought i would get more sleep. The First night was great he fed he slept 3 to 4 hours woke up needed changing got fed went back to sleep. I thought things would be great what a good baby we have........ Well we all know how this is going to end, "In Tears".

Second night not so great. I tried to sleep as i had to start back to work on Tuesday, I got a few hours sleep then i wake up and the baby is in his bassinet crying and Jodi is on the floor sobbing.... Its all the Hormones they make you think your are unfit to be a mum, that you are not doing it right. He's not helping by not going to sleep after a feed, he just wants to keep feeding. So i got up sent Jodi to bed and sat with him for a while, Still not going to sleep.... What am i doing wrong! Always looks like he is wanting to feed, So i grab the dummy try that. We were trying to not use the dummy as there is issues with using it like speech development and some others but in this case it worked. He would suck on that for a while then spit it out and go to sleep. He woke up after 1 hour and wanted a feed but i knew better he just wanted to suck on something so i gave him his dummy again and then off to sleep..... Get up have to change him (its stopped smelling like bacon and eggs) wake him up in the process, Give him back the dummy 5 mins and he is asleep. Put him down and managed to get some sleep till the next feed at about 7am.

So far we are trying to get him into a pattern of feed sleep for at least 3 hours 4 if he wants to then feed again.

Ok enough of my rambling of a proud new dad who is slowly learning the many squarks of the Baby named Harrison.

Second Outing.

This was harrison's second outing to the Big shopping centre. We left the camera in the car so the only photo we got was when we got back to the car after it all had happened.

We registered him on Medicare had some lunch, got some extra things we had forgotten to buy before he came along. Then went home. Above you can see Harrison's cousin Emma giving him a little kiss :)

Home!

Just to let everyone following along at home, We are HOME!!!! jodi might get a few hours sleep between feeds unlike at the hospital where you feed and then you lay awake listening to all the commotion going on around you.

We took Harrison out to the local tavern and had a meal to see how he would go out in the big wide world also to get him used to being around a lot of people. He was a dream bit of a cry half way through cause he got hungry but a quick feed and he was sweet back to sleep.

Got to love it when they are small.

Anyway need some sleep now so more photos in the morning. When we go and register him as really being a person :) and start the process for the cashback from the government :) that's going to come in handy just keeping him in clothes :)

Night all.

Harrison's going home!

This is the first day in the big wide world for Harrison. In the car seat ready to leave the Hospital. It was fun but now hopefully we can get some sleep.

More on the Harrison files.

Here we can see Harrison asleep this is a much better picture than the first one. This is after he has had is first bath (see below). As you can see he has quite a bit of hair. One of his best features is how cute he is as a newborn i am constantly getting that he is a cute baby, now either everybody i meet is very polite or maybe there is some truth in it. I like to believe the later as he has good genetics coming from Jodi and myself :)

This is his first bath. Unfortunately i had to miss this as I was half way through painting another room Jodi wanted done when she was nesting and now cant finish due to the whole labour thing.

But from what Jodi was saying he loves to have a bath, lets hope this continues as boys are notorious for not bathing.

The Hospital was great they show you how to do all the hard stuff like bathing and breastfeeding before you leave so you know what you are doing when you leave. I have to admit the classes we took before the birth has helped with Jodi learning to breastfeed she has picked it up like a natural.

I'd offer but i don't think our society as accepted the men taking that job on :)

This is the best photo I could get with him not looking like he has been out on the town having a few punch-up's.

The little scratches on his face are due to the fingernails. So he had his first manicure today, Nails clipped & buffed.

He is the best baby we could ask for. He doesn't cry very much yet, When the other babies are screaming their heads off he is happily looking up at me or sleeping. First night was a bit a stress for Jodi as she didn't get much sleep with 4 other babies in the room and quite a few screamers down the hall. Harrison didn't cry all night gave a few squawks and jodi changed him feed him and everything was good.

God i hope it stays like that when we get him home. Some of us need our beauty sleep.

I'll be looking forward to getting him home just so Jodi can get some sleep during the times he is asleep. Just have to limit the visits from the family to afternoons or something so she can get some rest during the day. I bet that wont happen though.

Anyway enough ramblings from a happy father. More pictures in some of the 100 odd outfits he has. (wife has caught the shopping disease)

Night all.

Into the world comes Harrison

Its a BOY!!! 7 pounds 3 born 9.37 am

Well to continue from the previous post.

We arrived at the hospital and saw the first midwife. She asks the doctor to come in and have a look because we think our water has broken.

After a short time she comes and has a look. Says it looks like your waters have broken but you are not dilated at all. Your Doctor allows you to go home if your waters have broken but have not started dilating "do you want to go?"

"No Thanks" we say hoping to get something to at least get jodi to sleep a bit.

Then they come back and say seeing as your waters have broken would you like to be induced with this cool drug called cytocin, which bring on the contractions.

We say yes hoping to get it over with. She then says "it might be 6 to 10 hours before anything comes out". "That's ok" we say at least it has started.

We shift change over by then.... New midwife comes in with the Cytocin and says ok well i will just do an exam to make sure at what stage you are up to.

WELLLL!!!!!

"oh your 7cm, no make that 6cm dilated and your waters haven't broken"

This was in the space of about 1 hour :) So I don't know how the first doctor missed that as 6cm is a large hole to miss.

Then she says "ok well ill break the waters and see if that moves you along quicker".

She proceeds to pull out her knitting needles (or it looked like one). Broke the waters and !!!!MY GOD!!!! how much water came out, there was no way what we thought was the water breaking was actually the water breaking!

The midwife notices that the baby has done a small poo in the water so decides to push the cytocin just to move things along a bit faster.

Well that stuff works great because 4 to 6 large pushes and a few build up contractions and Harrison was born.

No great issues they stopped him from coming all the way out to clean is mouth and nose before his first breath. But that was it.

Healthy all over! Put on mum for a while the pulled the placenta out and i got to cut the cord!

After a while wrapped him up and gave him to me after being weighed 7lb3oz or 3.272Kg not huge but a good size for a first time mum.

I have posted the photo for those that didn't get it via MMS on the phone :)

Now I have to sleep and i think Jodi is getting some rest for a change still at the hospital.

Expect more in the next few weeks as we come to terms with a new house guest.

bye all.

Off to the Hospital

Hopefully for the last time........ Let you know when i or we get back.

I've had enough!

Here we are at 3:55am on Friday morning and guess what Still no baby. We think this might be getting to the right stage soon, as it is 7min apart and 90 sec long and hurts like hell.

Jodi is sick of it. I need some sleep. Jodi needs some sleep.

Last couple have gone back up to 10mins...... This is ridiculous???

When is he coming? So loyal followers NOTHING to Report!!!!

Yabbie pumps are us

Well we have decided to buy a yabbie pump an just suck that baby out. It 2:50 pm and NOTHING!!!! Lots of PAIN and NOTHING!!!!

Well we have been told that this pre-labour can sometimes take up to 3 days..... Well all I can say is Why!!!! Just flood your body full of the cool hormone relaxin and squeeze and out he pops. None of this waiting around for days. Get it over quickly like ripping a band-aid off.

Back to the never ending duties of the husband Now.

Where did the baby go!

Well it is now 8:30am I feel like I have died from no sleep. Jodi is now back to 15mins apart and not much sleep.

This baby birthing is hard stuff.

Us men cant do much except tell them they are not dieing.

oh well looks like I will be staying here waiting for the time when the hospital says yes please come to us and have your baby.

More of the Baby Labour

Well its 3am and still no baby. We are sitting at home on the floor. Jodi is sick of it and wants to start cursing me but is a lady.

We are currently 6mins apart and just under 1 min long so not long until we go to Hospital I hope for her sake.

Anyway must go and do the husbandly duties and accept blame for this as that's about all us men can do for the women having baby's :)

Baby on its way

Well it seems the day has arrived.

Jodi's day started at midnight when she got the first pains of the oncoming labour. She then wandered around slept a bit until about 4am at which time comes in and wakes me up saying the hospital wants us to come in.

Well get to the hospital for a bit of an inspection under the hood and told to go home and wait until they last for 90 sec and hurt like hell or until the water breaks which ever comes first.

So I went to work, Jodi stayed home putting up with the pain like a good wife should. I have come home now and she is 10mins apart and 43sec long and hurts a bit (no screaming yet which is good).

We are working on a birth time of 1:23am on the 4/5/06 to get is birth 123456 :)

As soon as we have pictures they will go up for those of you following along at home.

More later.
